Blue Alien Clinger

The Alien Clinger is here and wants to hold you in it's arms. Take this special thing on all your adventures and you'll always have a hand to hold. You'll be seeing the world through a fresh set of eyes.

This soft purplish-blue thrifted Turkish cotton bed sheet is stitched with boobs and butt details. The handle, arms and legs are stuffed with a mix of 100% cotton pre-consumer textile waste and small Clingy fabric scraps. It is just so soft and squishy.

Outer - Turkish Cotton thrifted bed sheet with padded grid sewn with organic cotton calico scrap fabric and stuffed with a mix of 100% cotton pre-consumer textile waste from @hoooked.zpagetti and Clingy mixed fabric scraps. Quilted with organic cotton batting.

Inner - Cotton calico

Hardware - Mechanically recycled polyester YKK zip

Label - Organic cotton canvas, digitally printed with a water based pigment ink by Next State Print

Thread - Polyester

Hang tag - Reused cardboard laser cut and engraved by @modelcraftmodel makers. Tied with Neon green cotton cord sourced from @reversegarbage.
Avoid fully submerging as padded hearts will take time to dry. Spot clean with mild detergent and deoderize with a vinegar spritz. Mix 1 part vinegar and 2 parts water into a spray bottle. Shake well and spray lightly over your Clingy thing.
This Clinger has a lengthy life ahead of it. However, if the spark fades and you don’t want your kids/grandkids to find it in your attic and take it out on the town, then here is what to do;

Repair - If your old friend is looking a bit shabby, giving it some love and attention to set things back on track.

Pass it on - find someone else who will enjoy the company.

Find another use for it - could it be a handy make up bag or a hanging vase for fresh or dried flowers?

Recycle it - Although they aren’t widely accessible currently there are textile recycling facilities across Australia.

Unfortunately we cannot refund the cost of shipping and you will need to cover the return and re-delivery cost.

As part of our commitment to sustainability, we also offer free repairs within the first year of your Clinger’s life. This includes mending things like broken seams and zips. Please get in touch to see if your Clinger qualifies. You’ll just need to cover the cost of shipping and we’ll sort the rest!

Today our bags are wrapped in custom illustrated tissue paper, packed into a recycled Kraft cardboard box and protected from the weather by a recycled plastic mailer.

Why did we choose recycled plastic mailers over compostable ones?

This was a personal choice as we believe that recycled mailers are more likely to be handled correctly after use. These mailers can be recycled with soft plastics wherever Redcycle collects i.e. Coles or Woolies. We don’t believe home or industrial composting is as highly accessible to Australians compared to soft plastics recycling.

Compostable mailers need to be composted in either an industrial composting facility or a home compost as it requires the right conditions to break down. Hence, when these mailers end up in landfill they won’t decompose.

Due to Australia’s recent pause of soft plastic recycling we are researching alternative mailers and will continue to use up our current supplies.
