Love in 3D(enim) iPad Kid Clinger

The Love in 3D(enim) iPad Kid Clinger isn't afraid to let their feelings show. 
 
This lovely dark denim is adorned with lumpy hearts, backed with denim scraps and stuffed with tiny Clingy mixed fabric scraps.
 
Big enough for most laptops, certainly your biggest iPad, your packed lunch and a small water bottle. 
 
Dimensions = 35cm x 21cm x 8cm
Strap length = 80 - 110cm (see size guide)
Pocket = 15cm x 12cm

Outer - Deadstock Denim Stretch length from @reversegarbage. Quilted with organic cotton batting. Hearts backed by 100% cotton denim scraps and stuffed with mixed fabric scraps.

Inner - Cotton calico

Hardware - Mechanically recycled polyester YKK zip

Label - Organic cotton canvas, digitally printed with a water based pigment ink by Next State Print

Thread - Polyester

Hang tag - Reused cardboard laser cut and engraved by @modelcraftmodel makers. Tied with Neon green cotton cord sourced from @reversegarbage.
Avoid fully submerging as padded hearts will take time to dry. Spot clean with mild detergent and deoderize with a vinegar spritz. Mix 1 part vinegar and 2 parts water into a spray bottle. Shake well and spray lightly over your Clingy thing.
This Clinger has a lengthy life ahead of it. However, if the spark fades and you don’t want your kids/grandkids to find it in your attic and take it out on the town, then here is what to do;

Repair - If your old friend is looking a bit shabby, giving it some love and attention to set things back on track.

Pass it on - find someone else who will enjoy the company.

Find another use for it - could it be a handy make up bag or a hanging vase for fresh or dried flowers?

Recycle it - Although they aren’t widely accessible currently there are textile recycling facilities across Australia.

As part of our commitment to sustainability, we also offer free repairs within the first year of your Clinger’s life. This includes mending things like broken seams and zips. Please get in touch to see if your Clinger qualifies. You’ll just need to cover the cost of shipping and we’ll sort the rest!
Finding the right packaging for these lovely Clingers will be an ongoing journey.

Today our bags are wrapped in custom illustrated tissue paper, packed into a recycled Kraft cardboard box and protected from the weather by a recycled plastic mailer.

Why did we choose recycled plastic mailers over compostable ones?

This was a personal choice as we believe that recycled mailers are more likely to be handled correctly after use. These mailers can be recycled with soft plastics wherever Redcycle collects i.e. Coles or Woolies. We don’t believe home or industrial composting is as highly accessible to Australians compared to soft plastics recycling.

Compostable mailers need to be composted in either an industrial composting facility or a home compost as it requires the right conditions to break down. Hence, when these mailers end up in landfill they won’t decompose.

Due to Australia’s recent pause of soft plastic recycling we are researching alternative mailers and will continue to use up our current supplies.
